You Can Be Approved For A Secured Credit Card Even If You Have A Low Credit Score
With a secured credit card, you provide a deposit equal to your credit limit. This is less risky for the card issuer, since they will be paid from your deposit if you fail to make your payments. This means that your credit score doesnt have to be as high to get this type of credit card.
Once you show a pattern of paying your monthly credit card bill responsibly, you can apply to get your deposit back and have your secured card converted to a regular credit card.
What Does Credit Card Pre
Pre-approval is a process that lenders use to screen applicants for different credit offers. The process uses broad factors in an applicants credit report from one of the three credit bureaus to make an initial decision on whether a borrower is a good candidate for the card.
The credit card company does a soft credit check, looking at general information in your credit report. A soft credit check is different from a hard credit check, which requires your Social Security number and reviews in-depth information regarding payment history, the amount of debt you already have, and any derogatory marks on your report.
The pre-approval process helps both you and the credit card issuer decide whether a particular card is right for you or if theres another option that would suit you better.

What Does Prequalified Mean
Prequalification means the creditor has done at least a basic review of your creditworthiness to determine if you’re likely to qualify for a loan or credit card. Consumers initiate this process when they submit a prequalification application for a loan or card.
Requirements for prequalification can vary depending on the situation. It may involve sharing basic information about your financial situation, such as your annual income, monthly housing payment and savings. For some prequalifications, lenders will check your credit through a soft inquirythe type of inquiry that doesn’t impact your credit scores.
Once you’re prequalified, you can choose to apply and undergo a complete review process. The review may require you to submit official documents, rather than estimates, and agree to a hard credit inquiry, which can impact your credit scores.
Getting prequalified doesn’t guarantee an approval. But if you’re able to apply for prequalification with a soft inquiry , it’s generally a good idea. If you get denied at this stage, you’ll know you can move on and avoid the hard inquiry.

Top 5 December 2021 Pre
Many credit card issuers pre-screen consumers and mail preapproved credit card offers to those who meet their criteria. However, instead of waiting for pre-approved credit card offers, you can go online and check out credit cards that offer prequalification. Such cards will help you gauge your approval odds without triggering a hard inquiry and, therefore, without impacting your credit score. Below you will find credit cards that will tell you if you’ve been pre-approved for the card.
Does Either Affect Your Credit Score
Since both pre-qualifying and pre-approving you for a credit card involve making soft inquiries to your credit reports, neither affects your credit score. Your score may only be affected if you actually apply for a credit card and fill out a more extensive application. At that point, a hard inquiry will be made to your credit reports, which could lower your credit score, although typically no more than 5 to 10 points.
However, if while shopping for a credit card you submit multiple credit card applications, each one of these can trigger a hard inquiry and could lower your credit score substantially. Whats more, credit card companies may interpret multiple applications as a sense of desperation on your partor an indication that youre looking to run up balances on multiple cardswhich could result in a greater negative impact to your credit score. It may also paint you as a riskier prospect, which could result in being denied credit or being offered less-favorable interest rates or terms from credit card companies.
And therein lies the beauty of pre-qualified and pre-approved offers. They allow you to see which credit cards you may be able to get without lowering your credit score. Without the ability to see if you pre-qualify or are pre-approved, you would have to fill out an application for any card youre interested in, which could result in multiple hard inquiries and lower your credit score.

The Two Types Of Credit Inquiries
There are two types of credit inquiries into your credit score. They’re known in the business as soft inquiries and hard inquiries. Only a hard inquiry is an indication that a lender is actively considering extending credit to you or has just done so.
When a consumer fills out an application that accompanies a pre-approved offer, the lender will sometimes use the soft inquiry that has already been pulled to make its decision, or it may pull a new report using a hard inquiry.
A soft inquiry is seen only by the consumer. It has no effect on a credit score, and other lenders cannot see them.
You Avoid Hurting Your Credit Score
Credit card issuers usually place a soft credit inquiry on your credit report when they check whether you pre-qualify for the card, and this does not affect your credit score. When you submit an actual application for a credit card, the lender uses a hard credit inquiry, which can impact your credit score.

Is Either A Guarantee
One thing both pre-qualified and pre-approved have in common is that neither guarantees you a credit card.
But wait! you may exclaim. I understand that checking to see if I pre-qualify for a credit card doesnt constitute a guarantee, but didnt you say that a pre-approved offer is extended after the credit card company conducts a soft inquiry into my credit? Since theyve already looked at my credit, why isnt a pre-approved offer guaranteed?
While its true that the credit card company may have looked at your credit with a soft inquiry, once you actually apply and authorize them to do a hard inquiry, theyre likely going to look closer. And they may see things they didnt in their original soft inquiry. Or your credit or income picture may have changed since they last examined it.
Say, for example, youve missed several payments on other accounts since the credit card company did their soft inquiry. Or perhaps you lost your job and no longer have the steady income you did a few weeks ago. Or maybe youve been applying for several different credit cards, which now shows up on your credit reports and, as mentioned, makes you look like a higher-risk applicant.
So the next time you get a pre-approved offer from a credit card company or are presented with a chance to see if you pre-qualify for a credit card, take these pre-word offers for what they actually are: tools to help you research credit card offers without affecting your credit score.

Preapproval With Credit Cards Vs Other Loans
With installment loans, such as mortgages and car loans, the difference between pre-qualification and preapproval is more clearly defined, and it’s not uncommon for consumers to go through both as they get closer to a decision. As you start looking for a house, for example, pre-qualification gives you an idea of how much you’ll be able to borrow. Getting preapproved allows you to make a firm offer to the seller when you find what you want.
With credit cards, on the other hand, you dont typically need that kind of advance approval. So pre-qualification is much more common than true preapproval. In fact, receiving an unsolicited guarantee of approval from a credit card issuer can be a red flag. Thats because some issuers promise preapproval in the hopes of selling you on a card you dont necessarily need or want. They may come from issuers that specialize in “instant-approval” cards for people with bad credit or no credit, which tend to carry extremely high fees.
Review any preapproved credit card offer you receive skeptically before applying to make sure it’s the right choice for you.
If you’d prefer not to get prescreened offers in the mail, you can opt out by going to optoutprescreen.com, which is run by the consumer credit reporting bureaus. You can sign up to opt out of prescreened offers for five years or permanently.

Should I Still Apply If Im Not Pre
If you request a pre-approved offer online but youre not provided with an offer, it means theres something in your credit history or other information youve provided on the pre-approval request is keeping you from meeting the qualifications for pre-approval. You may want to address any issues before applying for the credit card. If there are errors on your credit report that are keeping you from being pre-qualified for a credit card, you can dispute them with the credit bureau.
Are There Any Guaranteed Approval Credit Cards
Yes! If you want a credit card without the risk of a credit check, any of the secured credit card products on this list can help. Secured credit cards require an upfront deposit as insurance against the line of credit, meaning that your credit history isnt a factor. In this sense, they are guaranteed approval credit cards.
Since your deposit guarantees that the credit card issuer will get its money, youre guaranteed approval on your application. If you fail to pay back your balance, the credit company can hold onto your deposit.

Prequalified Credit Card Offers By Issuer
Each issuer approaches prequalification in its own way, with some giving applicants an easy way to check for prequalified offers across cards and others only featuring this option on select cards or via prescreened offers they put together themselves.
Prequalification tools typically ask for basic information such as your name, Social Security number, income and employment status to determine your eligibility. Heres a look at how some of the major issuers handle prequalification.
Do I Need Credit Card Preapproval
You don’t need to be preapproved for a credit card. You can directly apply for one by visiting a credit card company’s website. Many credit card companies also allow you to go to their website and see if you’re preapproved for a credit card.
Proactively checking to see if you’re preapproved for a credit card can save you the trouble of applying for credit cards that you may not qualify for. This is important since new credit applications are considered hard inquiries, which can lower your credit score and make it more difficult to get future applications approved.
Proactively getting preapproved for a credit card gives you the chance to see what terms you could potentially receive if you were to officially apply for a credit card. You get a snapshot of what could happen if you applied and it gives you the chance to decide whether you want to move forward with that credit card.
Keep in mind that the credit card offers you receive in the mail may not be the best out there. Before you apply for a card after receiving that prescreened offer, go online to check the card issuer’s most recent offers along with those from other issuers. You may find something better than the offer you received in the mail.
Compare the credit cards you’re interested in by looking at their rewards, perks, interest rates, and fees. Once you find the card you want in your wallet, see if you can submit a preapproval form to determine whether you may qualify for it or not.
