Striking A Deal With Ibm
In 1979, the team moved their headquarters to Bellevue, WA to gain access to a larger pool of talented programmers. By 1980, Gates struck a deal with IBM to develop the software for their personal computers. The company created the operating system for IBM’s PC , but retained the licensing rights to the software.
This proved to be a very big move.
When the IBM PC launched in 1981, Microsoft annual revenues skyrocketed to $16 million. And by the time numerous IBM PC imitators came out, Microsoft had licensed its software to 50 hardware manufacturers.
That Time Bill Gates Went Through A Mcdonalds Drive
Raymond
There was that time in the late 1990s that Bill Gates went down to the Bay Area to join some employees for a sales presentation to some other company.
One of the salespeople was assigned to pick up Bill from the airport. Bills flight was late, and there was barely enough time to get from the airport to the sales call. Bill got into the car and said he was hungry and wanted to go through a McDonalds drive-through before the meeting.
The salesperson had no cash on him, but he assumed that Bill would have money to pay, seeing as hes the richest man in the world. What he didnt know was that Bill was notorious for never carrying money with him.¹
They get to the drive-through window, and the salesperson admits, Sorry, Bill, I dont have any cash on me. Can you pay for this? But Bill didnt have any money either. He explained the situation to the person at the window, pointed out that his passenger was none other than Bill Gates, and requested some leniency.
He didnt get it.
They had to drive away empty-handed, and Bill suffered through the meeting hungry.
¹ The fact that Bill doesnt carry cash pours cold water on some variations of stories about Bill Gates.

Welsh Hacker Got Bill Gates’ Credit Card Number
WASHINGTON, March 26 — One of the two youths accused in Britain of international computer hacking last week said he had hacked the credit card number of Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, Britain’s Sunday Telegraph said.
Raphael Gray, 18, reportedly broke into 23,000 credit card accounts in eight banking Web sites.
The numbers included Gates’ credit card details, the Telegraph said. He was arrested last Thursday by British police and FBI officials.
Gray, who calls himself the Saint of e-Commerce, sent all the credit card details in an e-mail to NBCi, an NBC subsidiary.
“I just wanted to prove how insecure these sites are,” Gray was quoted as saying. “I have done the honest thing but I have been ignored. That’s why I posted the information on the Internet.”
Gray and an unnamed friend were questioned for 12 hours before being released on bail, the Telegraph said. Gray began his hacking spree six weeks ago, finding his way into e-commerce sites in the United States, Canada, Britain and Thailand, the newspaper said.
Microsoft did not comment on the report. A spokesman told the Telegraph, “It’s not our policy to comment on any individuals’ credit card details — even those of Bill Gates.”

What Does Bill Gates Carry Around In His Wallet
Wed bet that the vast majority of people reading this, regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic background, carry the same few basic items with them at all times a phone, some keys, a few dollars, a debit card, and maybe some I.D are all items youd reliably expect to find if you asked an average person on the street to turn out their pockets. But what would you find if you asked a millionaire, or even a billionaire, to do the same thing? As it turns out, it would appear youd find theyd produce more or less the same or less from their pockets as the average Joe.
For example, Bill Gates rarely seems to carry cash at all, or at least rarely admits to doing so. Gates is frequently asked by both journalist and the people he meets how much money he carries around with him on a daily basis and in most every interview we found, Gates stock response is that he seldom carries either cash or a wallet with him. An exception to this was a preamble Gates did to an AMA on Reddit, where he pre-emptively answered some of the more popular questions hes found himself being asked in the past, including How much do you have in your wallet?. The answer to which, at least at that moment in time, was a single, crisp $100 bill.
On the credit card front, its also worth noting that in more recent years credit and debit cards have become more of a status symbol than physical currency in some circles to quote Vanity Fair on the matter:

Why Focus On Financial Services For The Poor
Every year, millions of people around the world transition out of poverty. Regional growth and economic opportunities like new jobs, technologies, and business opportunities help people build more stable economic lives. At the same time, millions of people remain trapped in a cycle of poverty that is difficult to escape. We believe that financial exclusion is a significant driver of this cycle.
About 1.7 billion people worldwide are excluded from formal financial services such as savings, payments, insurance, and credit. In developing economies, only 63 percent of adults have an account, and womennearly 1 billion of themare disproportionately excluded from beneficial financial systems.
Most poor households still operate almost entirely through a cash economy. This means they have to save using physical assets, such as livestock or jewelry. Cash gets spent, animals die, and jewelry can be lost or stolen. Whats more, these forms of savings earn no interest and can actually lose value over time. To send money to family, those without a bank account have to rely on couriers or friends who carry cash by bus, which is expensive, insecure, and slow. To borrow money in an emergency, they must turn to moneylenders who charge notoriously high interest rates.
This Is Bill Gates’s Advice About Bitcoin
Gates addressed the issue of investing in Bitcoin in a conversation about Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Bitcoin holdings. Musk has famously been bullish on Bitcoin, and Tesla made a $1.5 billion bet on the cryptocurrency.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Gates commented that “Elon has tons of money and hes very sophisticated, so I dont worry that his Bitcoin will sort of randomly go up or down.” However, while the Microsoft founder made clear that he wasn’t concerned that Musk’s fortunes would rise or fall with the cryptocurrency, he did warn others who might be considering a large investment in the virtual coin.
“I do think people get bought into these manias who may not have as much money to spare,” Gates said. “My general thought would be that if you have less money than Elon, you should probably watch out.”
Gates, in other words, appears to believe that cryptocurrencies — including Bitcoin — may not necessarily be sound investments. Like many financial experts who are wary of crypto, Gates’s comments suggest he may think people are buying Bitcoin based on hype rather than because the coin has a lot of underlying potential.
Because Gates described Bitcoin’s ups and downs as “random,” his words also suggest he may not believe the price of the coin necessarily tracks its intrinsic value. His warning also addresses the issue of volatility as the price of Bitcoin can fluctuate widely — sometimes in a matter of hours or days.

When Did Bill Gates Get Into Computers
When he was in 7th grade, Bill Gates was first introduced to computers at Lakeside Private School. Lakeside had acquired a computer terminal to which students were given free access, and Gates was immediately fascinated,
It was here that Gates met his future business partner, Paul Allen. The two of them took full advantage of the computer terminal at Lakeside, spending their free time learning to program. In exchange for more computer time, Gates and Allen created a computerized scheduling system for their school .
Using their passion for computer programming, the duo started making some money for their efforts by creating a computerized traffic analysis system called “Traf-o-Data“, which netted them $20,000 after selling it to the Washington State Highway Department.
Bill Gates Knows The Truth

Bill Gates said about Israel, Israel is by many measures the country, relevant to its population, thats done most to contribute to the technology revolution. Warren Buffet also spoke about how Israel is an intelligent country. It has integrity. Energy. And more. Some people really do get it. They get Israel and all that it has to offer and all that it has contributed. They are looking forward to what Israel will develop in the coming years.
The truth about Israel is that it is one of the world leaders in technology. Why would anyone choose to boycott that? They will truly be missing out. It is really just not worth it to boycott the Jewish state.

The Real Problem With Bill Gates And Neoliberal Optimism
The progressive left needs to confront the fact that plutocratic philanthropists like Gates care much more about preserving the systems that continue to multiply their wealth.
If this is the best of possible worlds, what then are the others?
-Voltaire
Before the ongoing health crisis began, George Soros was the only American not in politics playing a central role in more conspiracy theories coming out of the populist right than Microsoft founder Bill Gates. This has made many on the left wary of discussing either of these billionaires in critical terms, which is a problem when you really think about the unique roles they play as people positioned to impact government policy in their own country and far beyond.
While Soros is mainly known for his interest in promoting a very specific kind of liberal democracy through his Open Society Foundations, especially in the former Soviet states of Eurasia and other, usually resource rich nations targeted for regime change by the U.S. and its allies, Gates has used his notoriety and well funded foundation in a much more subtle way.
It feels like while no one was looking, the man once accused of being a monopolist in terms of computing had positioned himself as a benevolent technocratic problem solver and advocate for the worlds poorest people.
One likely reason for this was offered by an investigative piece that appeared in the Columbia Journalism Review last August.

These business cards are from Microsoft’s first office, leased in 1976. Theyre also funky.
