How Does Nfcu Compare

Navy Federal Credit Union has competitive interest rates on many of its products. However, they’re still a tax bit lower than you get from some of the best high-yield savings accounts right now.

But most of those banks are online-only and may not have the best ATM networks. But NFCU offers the trifecta of brick-and-mortar branches, a large ATM network, and up to $240 of out-of-network ATM fees refunds.

NFCU’s solid rates combined with the cash and branch access that it offer could make it a strong choice for military members and their families. Here’s a closer look at how it compares:

How Do You Plan To Use Your First Credit Card

Knowing which best first-time credit card is for you starts with considering how you plan to use it. Here are some reasons you might decide to get your first credit card:

  • Building credit for a healthy financial future. Building good credit, or a credit history, is an important step to meeting some financial goals, like buying a house or starting a business. Opening a credit card account and paying off the balance each month is a great way to build your credit. If this is your plan, you can use a credit card to make everyday purchases like gas and groceries. As long as you stay within your normal monthly budget, repayment shouldnt be an issue.
  • Keeping credit cards for emergencies. Many people like to have a credit card for emergency use only, like a car repair or other unexpected expense. A solid emergency savings fund is the best way to pay for these expenses. However, having access to a credit card can provide the peace of mind that you can get out of a bind should you need more money than youve saved. If you do have to use a credit card for an emergency, make sure to pay off the balance, to avoid paying interest.
  • Taking advantage of credit card rewards. One of the great benefits of some credit cards are the rewards programs. These may include cash back, special offers and airline miles. Each rewards card has its own benefit structure, and you can choose one that works well with your spending habits or lifestyle.
  • How To Maximize Your Rewards

Make sure to use the card whenever you can, but especially when you will earn bonus rewards.

Also, check the credit unions Member Deals platform regularly to see if you can take advantage of extra rewards on purchases youre planning to make.

Of course, make sure to keep your spending in check to avoid credit card interest, which can offset the value you gain with rewards. In an ideal scenario, youd be able to pay off your balance in full every month to avoid interest charges.

When it comes to redeeming your rewards, check the redemption rate to make sure youre getting the most value possible, which is 1 cent per point. Try to avoid redemptions that give you less than that amount.

Is Navy Federal Credit Union Trustworthy

Navy Federal Credit Union’s Better Business Bureau profile is currently not rated as the credit union is in the process of responding to previously closed complaints. There is one recent controversy related to the credit union. A Navy Federal employee alleged that the lender pressured mortgage underwriters to approve loans even without proper reason to believe applicants could pay back the loans. She then filed a lawsuit and said Navy Federal retaliated against her whistleblowing by changing her job duties. She dropped the case in late 2020.

Great App With Even Better Service

Credit Score Needed for Navy Federal Credit Card

I use both Bank of America and NFCU, and NFCUs mobile app and overall customer support combined with integration with the app is completely seamless and eons ahead of BoA. The NFCU app has an extremely user friendly interface, and I love that it has direct links to customer service chat and call. Overall its security and banking-tech integration is fantastic. There was an example of a time I forgot my PIN to my card and after speaking with a representative she informed me that I was actually able to reset my PIN directly through the app. In comparison for BoA I can only reset my PIN by going in person to the bank during their working hours, which obviously poises a challenge for customers with 9-5 workdays. I am so impressed with the apps highly secure, detailed and user friendly interface. Even today when I went to make multiple payments to my credit card, it prompted me with a screen checking if I knew I was making multiple payments. I really appreciate developers high attention to detail and clear care to make NFCU customers experience using the app as positive, secure, accurate and responsive as possible. Thanks NFCU! Amazing service as always.
