What Should I Do When My Card Is Declined
If your credit card is declined, start by double-checking to ensure that you entered the right information.
When shopping online, that information will include your credit card number, billing address, expiration date, and security code. If youre using your card at a brick-and-mortar business, this will likely only include your billing ZIP code.
If youre positive that youre entering the correct information and your card is still being declined, check the back of your credit card for your issuers contact information. Call the toll-free number and ask the representative whats wrong. Your credit card issuer will virtually always be able to identify the issue and guide you through the steps youll have to take to address it.
Pay Off Your Credit Card Balance

You can close a credit card even if you still have a balance, but your credit score may suffer because your will appear higher. Credit utilization considers the ratio of your credit limits to credit card balances and is part of the second biggest factor that goes into your credit score.
When you close your credit card with a balance, you’ll still have to make regular monthly;payments until you’ve paid off the balance.;If possible, be sure to pay off the balance on the credit card before you close it since it will lessen the impact on your credit score.;
When you pay off the card and close it, you will no longer have that credit limit boosting your credit utilization. In other words, if you close a card after paying it offand your other cards have balances close to their credit limitsyour overall credit utilization will rise. You want to have credit available on each card, showing creditors that you’re not maxing out your accounts, which would make you a credit risk and lower your score.
If you can’t afford to pay off your balance and you’re eager to close the credit card, consider transferring the balance to another credit card. A credit card without any used credit or one with a promotional interest rate is good candidates for a balance transfer.

Deserve Edu Mastercard For Students Vs Discover It Student Cash Back
The Discover it Student Cash Back card also has no annual fee, but offers 5% cash back on the first $1,500 in quarterly spending in select rotating categories when you enroll. Though it has a much more complex rewards earning scheme than the Deserve EDU Mastercard, the Discover it Student card has the potential to earn much more in rewards for the same spending, especially at the end of the first year, when Discover Cashback Match matches the all of the cash back that a new cardholder has earned during the first year.
The Discover it Student Cash Back also earns the same unlimited 1% cash back the Deserve EDU Mastercard does on all other purchases. The major drawbacks of the Discover card over the Deserve EDU are that Discover isnt widely accepted outside the U.S., so its lack of foreign transaction fees are a moot point and that the card wont be as easy to obtain for those without social security numbers.
Deserve Edu Card Review
The Deserve EDU card is an excellent student credit card for those attending a U.S. university. The card is especially ideal for international students, as Deserve does not require a Social Security Number to apply.
Student credit cards are generally easier to receive than regular credit cards because they are geared towards those with limited or no credit history. Deserve EDU takes this a step further by removing the need for an SSN, opening the world of unsecured credit to a wider selection of learners.
No SSN needed makes the card perfect for international students that want to establish credit in the United States but dont want to pay a security deposit to open a secured credit card account. All international applicants need to apply is their passport, U.S. bank account information, and U.S. student visa.

The transition from high school graduate to college or university freshman is a big leap.
From living away from home for the first time to learning how to navigate the ins and outs of campus life, wading through the complexities of getting a first credit card can quickly fall off the priority list for many students. And while some students may choose not to apply for a credit card at all, others may be swayed into a particular card by a sales representative on campus promising freebies like a complimentary t-shirt. Neither of these is the best courses of action to take, as students should understand the benefits of using credit cards and compare all their options instead of being sold on a single card.
Below, we shed light on the benefits of student credit cards and provide a breakdown of the best student credit cards in Canada for 2021. Note: While some of the cards on our list are not full-fledged student credit cards per se, all have no annual fees and minimal qualification requirements.

No Card It’s Almost Two Billing Cycles Now
I had an absolutely horrible experience from Deserve. I was approved for the Deserve EDU Mastercard on June 23rd and after more than a month, they still haven’t sent me the card , despite multiple calls to their customer support. I’ll get the second billing statement next week, and still no card! It’s just been a total headache dealing with their customer support, who just keeps endlessly pushing back the timeframes for me to receive the card- they made me wait one full month before re-issuing the card, and kept on asking me to wait for a couple more days every time I call them after the standard 5-10 business days time frame. And I’ve verified my address multiple times, so it seems something is terribly wrong with their shipping, since I’ve been getting other USPS mails just fine. Just know that if at all something goes wrong, their customer service might just keep giving you false promises without trying to sort out the issue properly.I finally got tired of contacting their customer support, filed a complaint with the CFPB , and got a credit card from Discover- and I finally have some peace of mind.

New Student Unable To Get Card
I helped my daughter try to get this card as her first credit card, starting college. The application process was a nightmare. We followed all the instructions, and then they demanded a copy of her studend ID card. She only had a digital copy, as she hadn’t started school yet. Went back and forth with them for weeks, playing phone tag, unable to reach anyone who would answer the phone. Hours wasted, I finally sent an email of my frustrations. A supervisor called and said the digital copy would be fine. So she submitted it again and a week later her whole application was denied because of the lack of student ID . Total waste of time, we will be going elsewhere and never doing business with Deserve again.*Update. Their response to me directly provided no actual assistance. Their reply on this website was just for show.

As part of this process, youll need to provide them with access to your bank account to verify your assets. Keep in mind that if you do have a credit score, Deserve will take it into consideration.
This isnt a card for people with bad credit. Its a card for people with no or limited credit.
At the same time, the Deserve® EDU card is ideal for building a credit score from scratch. Thats because Deserve reports to all three major credit bureaus.
These companies are the ones who determine your credit score. If youre making your credit card payments on time and keeping your balance to a minimum, this will reflect well on you, and your score will go up.
Be careful not to fall into delinquency, though late payments will actually hurt your credit score.

Great For International Students
International Students can apply for a Deserve® EDU Mastercard without a Social Security number.
However, youll still need to provide some documentation, including your passport and student visa. Depending on your school arrangements, youll also need to show your I-20 or D.S. 2019. U.S. citizens and permanent residents will simply provide their Social Security number.
Keep in mind that if you obtain permanent residency, youll need to provide a Social Security number at that time.
Another benefit for international students is that you can use this card to build credit without the need for a Social Security number.
However, youll have a harder time obtaining your own credit rating. Youll usually have to submit a request to the credit bureaus in writing, which takes extra time and is a bit of a pain.
If you end up obtaining a Social Security number, youll be able to skip this part.
