How Paying With A Credit Card Can Save You Money

While debit cards are generally accepted, you’ll likely find credit cards to be more convenient, especially if you want to avoid a hefty security deposit or a credit check. On top of that, you could potentially save some money by using credit instead of debit when you rent your next vehicle:

  • Some cards offer discounts. Some premium travel credit cards give you access to special discounts when you rent a car with select rental agencies.
  • Some cards offer rewards and other perks. You can earn cash back, points or miles on your rental with virtually any rewards credit card, but some offer bonus rewards on travel-related purchases like rental cars.
  • You could get car rental insurance. Many credit cards offer a car rental collision damage waiver benefit, though in most cases, it’s secondary coveragewhich means you’d first need to file a claim with your primary insurance provider if you have one. Some premium cards offer primary coverage. Also, keep in mind that credit cards don’t include liability insurance, so you’ll want to consider purchasing that if you don’t have a personal auto insurance policy or don’t want to use it.

How Much Does Hertz Hold As A Security Deposit

When you book with Hertz, your card will be charged a hold of up to $200 plus estimated rental charges. That sum is frozen until your credit card company returns it. Be sure to cushion your available balance and budget wisely for your trip expenses.

When you bring the car back, Hertz will charge your card for the total amount due. Then your credit card company will release that authorization hold. Hertz could put an additional hold on your card if you dont return the car on time. Be sure to notify the car rental office right away if you have any schedule changes.

What Is The Difference Between A Credit Card Hold Or A Deposit

No difference. The card hold or depositis a hold applied by companies to cover their backs in case they have to charge you for fines or penalties. And each company decides whether to retain it or not.

The deposit, is an amount of money, which varies depending on the type of insurance and the category of the car. It is left as a guarantee and is returned once you deliver the vehicle in the same conditions in which you picked it up.

The deposit money, or lock, is usually withheld on your credit card. While it is blocked, the rental company will not move it from your account, but you will not be able to use it either.

The deposit is NOT necessarily a cash deposit, nor a credit card lock, but simply a clause in the contract that establishes a monetary limit of liability in case of damage to the vehicle. You can hire insurance to eliminate the deposit.
