Call Your Credit Card Issuer
Dont panic. You can find your credit card issuers phone number on your credit card statement or online. You may be able to report your loss on the card issuers website or at a bank branch.
Keep in mind that federal law limits your liability for unauthorized charges. The most you’ll pay is $50. But act fast. Youll want to resolve the matter before anyone starts racking up bogus transactions and fraudulent charges on your card.
Tip: If you report your lost or stolen card before anyone uses it, you wont be liable for any unauthorized charges.
Other Accounts Included In A Credit Report
Your mobile phone and internet provider may report your accounts to your credit bureau. They can appear in your credit report, even though they arent credit accounts.
Your mortgage information and your mortgage payment history may also appear in your credit report. The credit bureaus decides if they use this information when they determine your credit score
A home equity line of credit that is added to your mortgage may be treated as part of your mortgage in your credit report. If your HELOC is a separate account from your mortgage, it is reported separately.

Customer Service Phone Line
Customer service phone numbers are not needed in making purchases and have no role in keeping your card safe from fraud per se. But it remains the best way to get in touch with someone from your bank when you need it.
For instance, many fraud attempts are carried out via phone or email. The quickest way to check whether a call or a message is legit is to call the number on the back of your card. Youll be talking to someone from your bank wholl be able to tell if there were any messages sent to you.
Write down this number and keep it separate from your card so that if you lose your card you can quickly call to immediately block the card so that nobody else can use it.

What Can Someone Do With The Last Four Digits Of My Credit Card Number Last Four Digits Of My Social Security Number And My Zip Code
I recently got a call from my bank telling me that there have been several fraudulent transactions on my credit card.
Naively I believed them and gave them he last four digits of my credit card number, the last 4 digits of my ssn, and my zip code.
Can they do anything with this information, and is there anything I can do to protect myself? For example freezing my credit report.
- 5Whenever I get a call of this nature, I tell them I’ll call back on the number printed on the back of the card, and request a case number, department or extension to connect to. Substantially safer that way.
Those three numbers are the most common ones used to verify the identity of someone who already has an account with the company in question. If you call customer service for a company that has your credit card, they’ll ask for your last four to “confirm” that it’s you, and possibly your zipcode. If you call your bank, or a government agency, they may ask for the last four of your social.
With just that information, they won’t be able to open a new account in your name anywhere, or charge anything to your card. But they can use it to “prove” that they’re you to some other organization which then may give them more details, which they can then use to do something more malicious.

Find The Number At Your Card Providers Website
Debit cards are most commonly linked to checking accounts. However, money accounts might also have debit cards linked to them.
So, most debit cards are linked to bank accounts, usually checking accounts. But many debit cards in circulation these days are prepaid debit cards. Various banks and other financial service companies offer these cards. If youd like to know which ones are the best, by the way, check out our best-of guide to prepaid cards.
Visit site via browser or mobile app
Whichever type of card you have, its likely the card issuer has a website where you can set up online account access. Have you done that already? Do you have your login information memorized, written down, or saved in your browser or device? Do you have the providers mobile app set up on your phone or tablet?
Even with account access, results will vary
If you can access the card issuers site via browser or mobile banking app, you might be able to find out your card number. This will vary. Your bank or other card provider may or may not give you a way to find your card number while logged into your account. Online banking features can differ a great deal from one bank to another. And non-bank issuers add to the variety.

How A Credit Score Is Calculated
Its impossible to know exactly how much your credit score will change based on the actions you take. Credit bureaus and lenders dont share the actual formulas they use to calculate credit scores.
Factors that may affect your credit score include:
- how long youve had credit
- how long each credit has been in your report
- if you carry a balance on your credit cards
- if you regularly miss payments
- the amount of your outstanding debts
- being close to, at or above your credit limit
- the number of recent credit applications
- the type of credit youre using
- if your debts have been sent to a collection agency
- any record of insolvency or bankruptcy
Lenders set their own guidelines on the minimum credit score you need for them to lend you money.
If you have a good credit score, you may be able to negotiate lower interest rates. However, when you order your credit score, it may be different from the score produced for a lender. This is because a lender may give more weight to certain information when calculating your credit score.
Online Merchants Or Payment Apps
Youve checked your online account thoroughly, and the results arent good. Your bank or other debit card issuer doesnt show your card number anywhere.
Now, suppose you use , Apple Pay, or save your card information at websites where you shop. Could that let you look up your card number? Your browser lets you unmask passwords when you need to. Surely it lets you do the same with credit card and debit card numbers, right?
Wrong. Standards that make your financial information more secure rule this out.
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards
The standards in view are the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards . You might see these referred to as regulations by some writers. But they are not standards imposed by governments. Instead, they are the work of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council . American Express, Discover, JCB International, MasterCard, and Visa created the PCI SSC in 2006.
What does the PCI DSS mean for the quest to find your debit card number online? It means none of the payment information youve saved at online stores or in payment apps can help. That is, it cant help find your debit card account number. It might show you your expiration date, though. That would solve one issue. It wont show the CVV code of your debit card, though. You have to enter that manually every time you place an order. Or state it orally, in the case of a phone order.

Even if you love your credit card, you probably shouldnt get too attached to the 15 or 16 digits emblazoned on it. If your card or your card data is ever lost, stolen or compromised, you’ll probably get a new card with a new number on it. That keeps the old card number from being used fraudulently.
However, a new card number is not the same as a new card account, so the new number in itself shouldn’t affect your credit score. But the downstream effects of the new number could cause you trouble if you’re not careful.
