LendingClub Personal Loan APR: 6.16% to 35.89%

Minimum Loan Amount: $1,000

All LendingClub personal loans are unsecured personal loans.

As mentioned previously, one of the key features of LendingClub is the fact that it is a peer-to-peer service. This means investors are providing you with the funds you need. In turn, you can also be an investor and provide funds for other people seeking to borrow money. This creates a greater degree of flexibility for people looking to borrow money.

Online

LendingClub is an online lender which helps speed up the process. While it can take up to a week to receive funding in certain instances, its still a great option if youre looking get money quickly. LendingClub can get you money much faster than a traditional loan, such as a bank or credit union.

Interest Varies

Lending club has good and bad interest rates, the one you receive will depend on your personal credit score. For example, their lowest interest rate of 6.16% is one of the lowest rates in the industry. While their highest interest rate of 35.89% is higher than some credit card interest rates. There is also a 1-6% origination fee depending on the circumstances of your loan.

How To Qualify For A Lendingclub Personal Loan

LendingClub requires that all borrowers be at least 18 years old, have a verifiable bank account, and are either a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or living in the U.S. on a valid, long-term visa. LendingClub loans are not available to residents of Iowa or the U.S. territories.

Although LendingClub doesnt list any credit score requirements on their website, a PR representative confirmed that the minimum credit score required to qualify for a personal loan is 600. Keep in mind that even if you qualify for a loan, having a lower credit score will likely mean getting higher interest rates or qualifying for a lower loan amount.

LendingClub doesnt have any minimum income requirements, although they do require proof of income. Your debt-to-income ratio, along with your credit history and credit score, may affect your loan approval and interest rate.;

If you have trouble qualifying for a loan due to a poor credit score, LendingClub allows you to add a co-borrower, which may help you qualify. Adding a co-borrower to a personal loan has its risks and benefits, so be sure to consider the pros and cons before starting a joint loan application.

LendingClub allows members to have up to two active personal loans through LendingClub at the same time. However, the combined minimum outstanding amount must be less than $40,000, and youll need a history of on-time payments on your first loan in order to qualify for a second one.;

Choosing A Loan Offer

Within a day or so, Lending Club will let you access offers from its lenders. Each offer will include the interest rate that the lender wants to charge. Most lenders base their interest rates on your credit score. They may also consider whether you want to get debt consolidation loans, business loans, personal loans, auto loans or other types of loans.

The Lending Club website makes it easy for you to compare offers from all of the lenders that are interested in working with you. If you have used other peer lending sites, then you might worry about the difficulty of comparing offers so you can choose one that matches your needs. Lending Club gives you a straight-forward list of your lending offers.

Take some time choosing which loan offer you want to accept. Lenders can do more than set their interest rates. They can also decide how long you get to repay your loan.

When choosing a loan offer, its wise to consider:

  • How much interest the lender charges.
  • How much the loans fees cost.
  • The term of the lenders loan .
  • The overall cost of accepting the loan.
  • The monthly cost of repaying your loan.

In most cases, you will get the best deal by choosing the offer with the lowest interest rate. Until you calculate the loans total repayment cost, though, you wont know whether it will truly help you save money.

Common Lending Club Reviews

Lending Club gets a wide range of reviews from its customers. Some Lending Club reviews point out that the company makes lending more competitive, which can help drive down interest rates. Lenders know that they face competition from each other. In response, some of them lower their interest rates to attract more business. Depending on how much money you borrow, even one percentage point can make a big difference in your overall repayment amount.

Other positive Lending Club reviews focus on how the company makes the loan-application process less intimidating. Getting scrutinized by a banks loan officer can feel very intrusive. With Lending Club, you never have to talk directly to your lender. You just provide the information that they need. It feels good to know that you dont have to sit in the same room with a loan officer while he or she goes over your financial history.

Some Lending Club reviews warn consumers to stay away from the company. A lot of people complain that the company automatically deducts loan-origination fees. Lending Club, however, is clear about its loan-origination fee deductions. If youre surprised that you receive less money than you applied for, then you didnt pay attention to the website.

While people have complaints about Lending Club, most of the negative Lending Club reviews seem to come from borrowers who didnt understand the lending and repayment process. Always read agreements carefully before you accept a loan from any provider.

What Happens When You Default On Your Lending Club Debt

  • Kaylee Kolditz

Lending Club, the largest online lender for personal loans in the United States, specializes in peer-to-peer lending. This means it reviews potential borrowers applications and, if approved, matches them with an investor or several investors who provide the funds at a fixed interest rate. Lending Club charges an origination fee of 1% to 6%, based on the loan amount. Typically, its loans are best for consumers with at least fair credit and a low debt-to-income ratio. Its loan repayment terms generally run three to five years, and loans can be as small as $1,000 and as large as $40,000.;Heres what happens when you default on your loan.

Reason #: Late Fees Are Smaller

Despite good financial habits, there are times in all of our lives where we might miss a payment. The fact is, almost everybody has fallen behind on their payments at some point, and most credit cards have steep fees for people who make late payments. This happens in two ways:

  • They can charge a large fee for a late payment, often around $30
  • Late payments can cause an increase in your interest rate

Just a single late payment can mean hundreds of dollars in new charges.

A peer to peer loan, in contrast, has a much fairer system. For starters, the late fee is usually smaller. Lending Club, for instance, often charges a fee of around $15, basically 1/2 that of a credit card. Also, making a late payment on a peer to peer loan cannot increase your interest rate. Of course, it is better to never be late at all. But if you do have to make a payment past the due date, then you can feel a little more at peace about it. After all, a late payment will not result in your your interest rate changing, and the fees will be lower than those from other loans.

Complaint #: Your Monthly Payment Can Be Too Expensive

A big complaint people have is that they get a flier from Lending Club in the mail advertising great loans, but when they check their loan offer online the monthly payment is more than they can afford. A loan offer with a high monthly payment can be frustrating, but there are a few big things you can do to lower your payment:

  • Only borrow what you need
  • Increase the term of the loan

Firstly, only borrow what you need. If you need $5,000 to pay off some medical bills then dont borrow $10,000 just because you have the option. Only borrow what you need; this is the responsible option. It will ensure that your monthly loan payment is as small as possible.

Secondly, think about increasing the term of the loan. The term is the length of time that you will borrow the money. For example, if you use LendingMemos loan calculator then you will see a 3-year $5,000 loan at 9% interest will have a monthly loan payment of $159. In contrast, a 5-year loan for the same amount has a monthly loan payment of about $104, $55 less per month for the same loan:

Perhaps you dont mind paying a little more interest overall if it means getting a monthly loan payment that is within your budget.

Option B: Lower Rates Through More Income

If you can increase the yearly income that you can report to Lending Club, you are more likely to qualify for a loan, and your interest rate is more likely to be lower. So how does one increase their income?

The easiest way is to think long and hard about how much money you actually bring in per year. Im sure you already told them about your salary from your main job, but do you have any side income you forgot to mention? Perhaps you make a few extra thousand dollars per year babysitting or painting houses. Print out some old bank statements and think long and hard about any other ways of earning money you might have forgotten when you originally checked your rate.

Of course, the simplest way to increase your yearly income is to increase how much money you make at your job, so perhaps this is a great opportunity to sit down with your boss and negotiate that raise youve been on the fence about. Or maybe this is the month for you to launch that side business youve been meaning to start. Literally do anything to increase your yearly income. You can include this higher income next time you check your rate at Lending Club, and hopefully your new rate will be lower.

Repaying Your Lending Club Loan

Since Lending Club uses so many independent lenders, a lot of factors can affect how you repay your loan. In most cases, you will make a monthly payment to Lending Club. The company then directs your payment to the lender.

If you choose a 36-month loan term, then you will make monthly payments for three years. If you choose a 60-month loan term, then you will make monthly payments for five years.

Lending Club gives you a 14-day grace period for late payments. If you dont submit your payment within 14 days of the due date, then you could face fines. The lender may also report your delinquent payment to one or all three of the credit bureaus. If this happens, then you can expect your credit score to fall. You may also receive a negative mark that stays on your record for up to seven years.

Since you already know how much your monthly payments will cost, you shouldnt have difficulties keeping up with the payments. Use the 14-day grace period if necessary, but dont exceed the time Lending Club gives you. Lending Club will not let you defer payments or renegotiate the terms of your loan.
