No Rewards And Limited Perks
Another major downside to consider with this card is that it doesnt offer a rewards program. Since a handful of credit cards geared to consumers with average credit offer the opportunity to earn cash back with some offering at least 1% back on every purchase you make this is disappointing. While you wont have to pay to hold the Capital One Platinum card, you also wont get rewarded for using it beyond its credit-building potential. The cards value isnt helped by its limited benefits, either, with shrug-worthy highlights including the ability to get a replacement card and a cash advance if your card is lost or stolen, $0 fraud liability, and assistance if you become a victim of identity theft.

How Long Until A New Credit Card Shows Up On Your Credit Reports
Nervous about a newer credit card that hasnt shown up on your credit reports? Fear not it may simply be too soon. Credit cards dont pop up on your reports the moment youre approved. Find Out Who Owns The Debt
Once you have a copy of your credit report, youll be able to see who currently owns the debt. You need to find out if Capital One still owns the unpaid credit card debt or if they sold it to a collection agency.
If your credit report lists the debt as a charge off then Capital One most likely sold it to a collection agency. If its listed as unpaid or as a collection then Capital One probably still has the debt.
How Often Do Credit Reports And Scores Get Updated
The next logical question is, when your credit card issuer sends the information to a credit bureau, when does it appear on your credit report?
Generally, you can count on your information to be added to your credit report as soon as the bureau receives it. According to TransUnion, when the credit bureaus receive information regarding your accounts, they typically add it to your credit report right away.
Your credit scores are calculated based on the data in your report every time a creditor requests them. However, you probably shouldnt expect any dramatic changes every time your credit issuer reports your most recent payment. Building credit can be a lengthy process that requires patience, but if you pay on time every time, youll see the results.
Your credit score isnt guaranteed to change with every timely payment.
Brian Martucci, credit expert at Money Crashers
That might not be the case with late payments. Whenever a delinquency appears on your credit file, it can significantly hurt your credit. The longer the debt goes unpaid, the more damage it can do to your scores.

How Long Do Capital One Late Payments Stay On Credit Reports
Generally, late payments will appear on your credit reports for seven years. To prevent your credit score from taking a dip, always review your credit cards individual policies.
Capital One will consider your payment late if the minimum payment arrives after the due date indicated on your cards statement. Payments generally have to be received by 5 p.m.
The same policy applies if your minimum payment is not made in full.
What Happens If You Have A Card That Doesnt Report To All Three
If you have a card that doesnt report your activity to any of the three credit bureaus, youll get no benefit from using it responsibly. And if it reports to only one or two, the credit benefit of using the card will be limited.
For example, lets say you have a credit card that reports to Experian and TransUnion, but not to Equifax. Over time, youve used your card responsibly and established a good history on your credit reports with those bureaus.
But if you go to apply for a loan or a new credit card and the lender calculates your credit score based on your Equifax credit report, it will be as if you never had the credit card. Again, youll get no benefit.

What You Can Do
If youre concerned about your credit utilization in relation to credit reporting, you might consider asking your credit card issuer for a higher credit limit. Having more credit available and not using as much may help boost your credit. Just be sure to do your research first. And keep in mind that having more available credit could actually hurt your scores if it tempts you to rack up more debt.
Additionally, you can make multiple payments throughout the month to lower your overall balance. That way, when the balance is reported to the bureaus, your credit utilization is in good shape.
If you want to get a better handle on your credit, you can always check your credit reports from Equifax and TransUnion on and dispute any errors you see.

Why Is This A Big Deal
Capital One Spark Cash is the only business credit card which offers unlimited 2% cashback on all purchases. But even with such a generous cashback offer, many businesses opted out of getting the card as they did not want their business balances to show on their personal credit report and hurt their credit score. Now, these businesses can jump in and take full advantage of the super cashback offer without any worries about their credit scores.
Another reason why this matters is in regard to Chase 5/24. Most business cards dont get reported on your personal credit report. Therefore, they do not count towards the Chases 5/24 rule. Capital One Business cards do get reported to the credit bureaus and do count towards Chases 5/24. But now that this changed you can feel freer to get the Spark Cash card, without using up a slot towards a Chase card.
Which Credit Score Do Banks Use
Non-Banking Financial Companies and banks use the credit score provided by CIBIL, Experian and Equifax to determine the potential risk of lending to a customer. The lenders make use of these scores fix the credit limit for all eligible customers. The CIBIL score is a three digit number that ranges from 300 to 900.

Will A Credit Card Affect Your Credit Scores If Its Not On Your Credit Reports
Whether omitted credit activity impacts your depends on your objectives and financial situation. In the case of a home loan application, for example, lenders know that your credit reports vary by bureau. Typically, theyll consider these variances in the bureau information and related credit score for balanced decision-making, often by taking the average, or middle score, for example.

Low Cost Of Ownership
The Capital One Platinum card is lighter on fees and penalties than similar cards. To start, theres no annual fee. Since most unsecured cards marketed to consumers with poor or fair credit require a membership fee often charging upwards of $70 per year just to hold the card and sometimes even more in the second year this is a big plus. If you stay on track with your payments, avoid carrying a balance and otherwise practice responsible card use, you have a chance to build your credit profile with the Capital One Platinum card for free.
And since the Capital One Platinum is an unsecured card, you wont have to tie up money for months in a security deposit as you would with a secured card often your only option if youre trying to build credit without paying an annual fee.
The card doesnt also incur a penalty APR in case you miss a payment , doesnt charge a fee for returned payments, and, most notably for frequent travelers, charges no foreign transaction fee. This means you can use the card for purchases outside the U.S. without having to pay extra for the privilege.
What Do The Credit Bureaus Say
As you might expect, the three credit bureaus decline to disclose which card issuers purchase their credit reports. Similarly, the Consumer Data Industry Association, a trade group representing credit bureaus, says it also is unable to shed light on the credit bureaus used by card issuers.
Tip: A hard inquiry lowers your credit score, albeit by a small amount. This is because it can send an uncertain signal to a potential lender. For instance, why did you apply for new credit? Are you going to max out a new credit line? This is why its important to only apply for credit when you need it.

Who Can Be An Authorized User
Becoming an authorized user depends on two things: the account holder and their credit card company.
First, card issuers set their own policies. So they may have rules about who can be added or how old authorized users must be. From there, a lot of it is up to the cardholder.
As long as theyâre willing, there are many reasons a cardholder might add an authorized user. One is to try to help another person build credit. Parents might do it to teach their children about credit. Or someone could add their partner to help simplify their finances as a couple.
Whatever the relationship, trust is key. Once an authorized user is given access to an account, they typically can use their cardâwith or without permissionâuntil access is revoked. So it might be a good idea to talk about budgeting and spending beforehand.

Which Credit Bureau You Wont Know Unless Youre Turned Down
Whenever a card issuer requests your report from one of the credit bureaus after youve applied for a card, it shows up on the report as a hard inquiry. This inquiry then appears on the credit report from whichever bureau furnished your information.
If a card issuer approves your application, the company isnt legally obligated to inform you which credit bureau it used. However, if the issuer rejects your application, youll find out the identity of the bureau used to make the decision when you receive the issuers adverse action notice.
This legally required notice includes the name of the credit bureau whose report was instrumental in declining your application.
Welcome to the sometimes murky relationship between card issuers and credit bureaus.
To offer some clarity, we informally surveyed 12 major credit card issuers about which bureaus they use. Some issuers were forthcoming, while others were secretive. Heres what we learned.
