Tips For Keeping Up With Credit Card Payments
You can stay on top of your credit card payments by monitoring your spending, credit card account and payment method. Here are a few tips:
- Set up autopay. Using autopay for at least the minimum monthly payment can help you avoid late payment fees.
- Choose your payment dates. Many card issuers let you choose your bill’s due date. Choose a date that’s easy to remember and aligns with your finances .
- Sign up for notifications. If your card issuer offers it, you may be able to sign up for email, text and app notifications. You can set up alerts for when your balance goes above a certain point or to let you know your bill is soon due.
- Monitor your spending. It’s easier to pay off your bill in full if you limit your spending to purchases you can afford. The advice to treat your credit card like a debit card, spending only what you have, can come in handy here.
- Make payments throughout the month. Making early payments can lead to lower utilization rates and help you avoid surprisingly large bills. If you get paid weekly or bi-weekly, you could choose those times to pay down your credit card bill as well.
What If You Dont Pay Your Whole Bill On Time
If you pay your entire bill in full by the due date, you dont have to worry about any fees or interest. If you dont pay your bill in full by the due date, then your credit card issuer will start to charge you interest. You may also have to pay fees.
Sometimes it isnt possible for you to pay your credit card bill by the due date. There are a few scenarios that may occur if you dont pay your bill in full or on time.
The first scenario is that you make the minimum payment and then you have to pay interest on the remaining balance. If you pay at least the minimum, you avoid any late fees. You will have interest charges though. Credit card interest rates are often 20% or more so you should make sure you know how much credit card debt youll be paying before you decide to carry a balance.
So if you only pay the minimum on your credit card bill, you will start to accrue interest charges. What if you dont make a payment at all?

How To Donate To The Person Directly
The first way to make a debt payment gift is to provide the money directly to the person, who will then turn around and apply it to the account. You can do so in the form of cash or a check. Or you can use a payment app, like Venmo or Zelle.
Whichever you use, the general process is the same:
- Locate the person on the app.
- Select pay to and enter the amount you want to give.
- Add a note, such as, Heres $200 to cover your Wells Fargo card payment!
- Set the transaction to private mode. Most payment apps automatically defer to a public setting. The recipient probably wont want the whole world to know theyre in debt.
If it were me, I would make a payment directly to the account. Its quicker and easier. You dont have to worry if the money is being used the right way.

What Dates Does Your Credit Card Bill Cover
When it comes to paying your credit card bill, one of the most important things to know is your billing cycle. Each of your credit card bills will cover all the credit that you used within a certain period. This period is your billing cycle.
A billing cycle is usually about one month. Youll hear many people refer to your billing cycle as a month. However, the exact dates will depend on when your card was issued. For example, your billing cycle might cover everything between from the third day of one month and the third day of the next month. If you dont know the dates of your billing cycle, you can check your last bill . If you havent gotten a bill yet, check your cards online banking system or call the card issuers customer service number.

Ways To Make Monthly Payments To Your Credit Card
Set up a Direct Debit to make automatic credit card payments each month, either for a set monthly amount, the minimum payment or the full balance. This video explains the basics to help you get started.
Once a Direct Debit is in place, your monthly payment will be credited to your credit card account on your payment due date. The money will be collected from your bank or building society by the next working day.
You can set up and manage your Direct Debit with MBNA using Online Card Services, or by giving us a call.
One off payments
If youd like to be in full control, or make additional payments on top of your Direct Debit, youve got a few options. Just make sure at least the minimum amount is covered each month, and the payment method used will get your payment to us before the due date. You can make additional payments at any point to reduce your balance and any interest costs.
If youve got a Direct Debit in place, any one off payments you make will be taken on top of your monthly Direct Debit payment.
Using the MBNA Card Services app simply log in, then select Pay credit card.
From here you can choose to pay by debit card or, more conveniently, to pay from a bank or building society account. If you choose to pay from an account you hold elsewhere:
- Enter the amount youd like to pay.
- From the list, select the bank you have an account with and want to pay from.
- Well briefly hand you over to their website or app to approve the payment.

Choose Credit Card As Your Payment Method
There will sometimes be an option to choose the type of credit card youre using, e.g. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, or a store credit card. If your credit card processor isnt listed in the box, the merchant doesnt accept that type of credit card. Youll have to use another type of credit. Youll encounter this more often with American Express and Discover than Visa or Mastercard.

When Do You Receive Your Credit Card Bill
Every credit card issuer has a billing cycle that generally lasts between 20 and 45 days. Youll receive your at the end of your billing cycle, either by mail or electronically, depending on your preferences.
The requires credit card issuers to give consumers at least 21 days between the date the statement is mailed or delivered and the date the payment is due. This gives you time to decide whether you want to make the required minimum payment, pay off your statement in full or make a partial payment against your balance.
Your credit card bill due date should be the same date every month, and you should expect to receive your credit card bill on or around the same date each month. Its a good idea to keep track of when you can expect your credit card statement in the mail or your inbox. That way, you can give yourself enough time to review your statement, dispute any unfamiliar charges and make your payment.
Balance Transfer Your Existing Credit Card Balance
Make sure you pay off your debt before the 0% introductory deal ends, otherwise you might have to pay a high rate of interest on the remaining debt.
One option for borrowers with existing credit card debt is to move it to a 0% balance transfer credit card.
These cards offer a period in which no interest will be charged on that debt. This means every penny of your repayments goes directly towards reducing the size of your original debt.
Youll usually need to pay a fee to transfer your debt over usually around 3% of the balance transferred . So if your outstanding balance is £1,000, it could cost you £30 to switch.
These cards are usually only an option if you have a good credit rating.
If you dont qualify for a 0% deal, look for a card with as low a rate as possible . But remember to look at the balance transfer interest rate, not the APR .

Dont Stick To Minimum Payments
Minimum monthly repayments tend to be set at very low levels. These are sometimes as low as 1%,plus fees, interest and charges but most will be higher.
If you only make the minimum repayment, your debt could take decades to pay off and you could pay thousands of pounds in interest.
Here are some tips:
- Aim to pay off the entire bill each month so you wont pay any interest at all. With a standard credit card, if you always pay off your monthly bill in full, you can enjoy between 45 and 56 days of interest-free credit.
- If thats not possible, pay off as much as you can and work out a repayment plan.
- Dont use the cards for cash withdrawals.
Lenders are required to suggest higher affordable repayments. If you dont respond, or ignore the issue, and the situation persists for more than 36 months this could lead to your account being suspended.
