Can You Use An Apple Credit Card On Venmo
No venmo app will not allow an Apple credit card to connect with it. The owners of both Apple and Venmo are significant competitors in the global exchange market of digital currency.
Like every other company, Venmo wants to use its digital currency system to keep up with the competition and promote its exchange systems rather than broadcasting its competitor.
This is the reason that Venmo and Apple dont cooperate. Moreover, Venmo is less vulnerable to fraud than Apple Pay, though it is not immune to the possibility of data theft.
For example, you must enter your debit card information into the app, making it more difficult to access the account using phishing scams or other data-harvesting methods. The app has a provision for push notifications. It is sent whenever you send or receive money, so its easy to keep track of your transactions.
How Credit Card Issuers Code Venmo Transactions
You could be charged a cash advance fee when using a credit card to pay people through Venmo. But Venmo cant tell you which specific cards might have this fee and how much this fee could be. Its up to each specific card issuer and how they code Venmo transactions.
Heres how many of the major credit card companies treat Venmo transactions:
Is Venmo Good For Business
Before you sign up for a PayPal or Venmo account , you should weigh the costs and benefits. The cost of accepting digital transactions through digital wallet-type apps is usually within the same range as the cost of credit card transactions, but it also costs money in terms of time and human resources .
Most business owners take the view that, unless they are losing money by not accepting a payment format, it’s not worth the trouble, and that line of thinking is sound. However, you shouldn’t make assumptions. Do some research on your current customer base to find out if they want to pay with digital wallets or if they’d prefer to use cash, debit and credit. Which Is Better: Cash App Or Venmo
The better payments app depends on your financial goals and spending habits. Both apps allow you to send and receive money from friends and family. Both apps also have cryptocurrency features. But Venmo offers a credit card and debit card, while Cash App only has a debit card. However, Cash App offers stock investing, while Venmo doesnt have this feature. Ultimately which is better for you will depend on your needs. Learn more by checking out our Cash App review.
Heres How To Use A Credit Card On Venmo:

- Tap the icon that looks like 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the app.
- Hit Settings, then Payment Methods.
- Tap Add bank or card and then tap Card.
- Enter your card number, expiration and security code manually, or with your phones camera.
If youd like to set your credit card as your primary funding source for Venmo, theres an option for that under Banks & Cards. Then, any time you want to send money with Venmo, your credit card will be the default. As always, though, just be mindful of how much of your credit line youre using.
Lastly, if youre wondering about the best credit card to use on Venmo, you should look for a card with consistently valuable rewards.

Venmo Credit Card* Vs Hmbradley Credit Card*
If you like the idea of flexible rewards based on where you spend the most, consider the HMBradley Credit Card.
Like the Venmo card, it earns 3% cash back in your top spending category, 2% in your next biggest area of spending and 1% on everything else and will also automatically adjust each month to reward you where you spend the most. But unlike the Venmo card, youre not restricted to just eight categories eligible for bonus rewards and your earnings remain unlimited, even after the first year.
The HMBradley card charges a $0 for the first year $60 thereafter annual fee, so you should consider if youll earn enough in cash back to justify paying it. And, although you dont need to sign up for a payment app to be eligible for the HM Bradley card, you do need to sign up for an HMBradley companion savings account, which is eligible for increased rates of interest on your savings based on how much you spend on your card.
So What Does The Probe Mean For Consumers
What it says to me is that the CFPB has picked up significant complaints about Venmo and theyre using the civil investigative process to see whats going on, said Ira Rheingold, executive director of the National Association of Consumer Advocates. If I was a consumer, I would be monitoring my transactions from Venmo more carefully.
That would include making sure the amounts going in and out of the account are accurate, and that there are no unnecessary charges, he adds.
Its also smart to limit the amount of money you leave sitting unused in your Venmo account, says Ruth Susswein, deputy director of national priorities for Consumer Action. Her advice: Leave in enough to do what you need to do, but not extra.
And if consumers have any problems, especially involving unauthorized fund transfers or debt collection, they should contact the CFPB , right away.
Complain to the CFPB now because its on their radar now, Susswein says.
For Ed Mierzwinski, senior director of the federal consumer program for U.S. PIRG , the CFPB probe changes nothing. He offers the same advice to anyone using any peer-to-peer payment system.
Dont use Venmo or similar services for any transactions involving strangers, including large businesses, Mierzwinski says. Use it only for transfers between friends and family and trusted small businesses .

There Is A Fee For Using Credit Cards For Personal Transactions
Venmo charges a 3% fee for sending money with a credit card. This applies to funds you may send to your family and friends, and it could add up pretty quickly.
For example, a $50 payment sent to your sibling to split the cost of a birthday gift would cost you an additional $1.50 if you used a credit card to send the money via Venmo.
This charge does not apply to debit card transactions.
Using Venmo To Meet Spending Requirements
Transferring and receiving funds through Venmo is free if your account is linked to a checking account or debit card. Users can link their Venmo account to a credit card, but they will be charged a 3 percent fee and therein lies the rub for users who want to use Venmo to satisfy their minimum spending requirement.
If you transfer $2,000 through Venmo using your credit card, you will incur $60 in fees, so you need to determine whether the value of the bonus points is worth the additional expense. Venmo has capped its maximum weekly transfer limit at $999 . In any case, the monthly minimum limit would be enough to meet the spending requirements for many credit card signup bonuses.
For example, if you are trying for 20,000 bonus points and you still need to spend $2,000 before the three-month deadline, you could transfer that amount to friends, family, your landlord, or anyone else for whom there is a legitimate purpose for sending the money.
If the points are valued at 2 cents each, they would be worth $400, which would make the $60 Venmo fee a pretty good investment. Just be sure to repay the money before you incur interest charges so you dont totally wipe out the bonus.

Venmo Vs Paypal: Sending Money
The process to send money to someone is fairly similar across the two apps. Both offer the ability to sync your contacts to the app, enabling it to search for any associated PayPal or Venmo accounts held by your friends and family. But even if the app doesnt surface the contact youre looking for, you can send money using their username, email address, or mobile number.
After choosing the recipient and the amount, both PayPal and Venmo will ask you what payment method youd like to use. If you have a positive balance with either service, you can use those funds for your payment. Otherwise, funds will be drawn from the bank account, debit card, or credit card you identify as your desired payment method for this transaction.
Once you hit send on your payment, the amount will hit the users PayPal or Venmo balance within a couple of minutes, often even seconds. With both apps, youll want to make doubly sure youre sending money to the right contact, since the companies wont refund your money if you send it to the wrong person.
Using A Credit Card On Venmo

Venmo charges a 3% fee when you use your credit card to send money to family and friends, but there is no fee if you are using your credit card to make an online purchase from a business that accepts Venmo. Online merchants who accept Venmo typically will have a Venmo-branded payment button on the site, or there will be a Venmo option after first selecting PayPal as the payment method.
While you can use a credit card to send payments, you cant transfer funds from your Venmo account to your credit card. Instead, you must transfer funds to your bank account or your debit card, and theres a fee to transfer funds to your debit card.
Venmos user agreement states that your credit card issuer may treat a transaction as a cash advance if you use your credit card to pay someone via Venmo. That same user agreement also states that it is a violation of Venmos terms of service to use the service to give yourself a cash advance or help someone else to do so.
Cash advances with a credit card typically carry an upfront fee and a higher interest rate while beginning to accrue interest immediately. So you may want to check with your credit card issuer before sending a payment, to determine whether or not the transaction will be treated as a cash advance.

One particularly useful way to utilize Venmo is to use it to help meet minimum spending requirements on a new credit card. Sure, youll pay a fee, but in many instances the bonus youll earn will outweigh the cost of using Venmo.
With the Chase Sapphire Preferred, for example, youd pay a total of $120 in Venmo fees if you used the service to meet the cards $4,000 minimum spending requirement . Factor that in with the cards $95 annual fee and youd still get a value of at least $585 from the welcome offer alone.
Or maybe you can spend $2,000 of the minimum spending requirement organically and charge the remaining $2,000 through Venmo. In that case, youd only spend $60 in Venmo fees, meaning youd get at least $540 in value from earning the cards welcome bonus.

Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, does not charge fees when you pay someone using your bank account or debit card, but fees do apply to credit card transactions.
